KEF is given strategic insights and direction by an eminent board with a wealth of accumulated experience in institution building and management. The Board provides insights from the business, finance, education and social sectors to help the Foundation reach its stated objectives.

Ajay G. Piramal

Chairman of Piramal Healthcare, a leading pharmaceutical company, Mr. Piramal holds a number of prominent positions in industry, including being a Member of the Prime Minister’s Council for Trade and Industry. He also has a keen interest in the social sector and is Chairman of both Pratham India Education Initiative and the Piramal Foundation. Mr. Piramal has a Masters in Management Studies from Bombay University and has completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School.

Narayanan Vaghul

Chairman of ICICI, India’s largest bank, Mr. Vaghul has more than 45 years experience in the banking sector. He is a board member for a number of leading firms, including Mahindra and Mahindra, Nicholas Piramal Industries, Arcelor Mittal and Air India. Mr. Vaghul is involved in a number of social causes. He is a board member of the Azim Premji Foundation and was previously Chairman of Pratham India. He is a graduate of Madras University.

Ujwal Thakar

CEO of GiveIndia.org and previously head of Pratham India, Mr Thakar has many years experience of management and governance in the social sector. A senior banker with 28 years experience in domestic and international banks in India, he was a part of the top management team that founded Timesbank. He was also the country head of retail banking in Standard Chartered Bank and BNP Paribas.

Chittaranjan Kaul

An advisor in education, organisation design and strategy, as well as an executive mentor, Mr. Kaul works with management, teachers' groups and parents to explore the meaning of learning and the purpose of education. He was previously a Principal at Sahyadri School in Pune (a unit of Krishnamurti Foundation), an Education Advisor to Reliance Industries in Mumbai, a founding Board Member of DAIICT in Gandhinagar and the founding Director of Anubhuti (a residential school in Jalgaon). He worked with Bank of America in India, Singapore and Hong Kong, setting up new businesses in investment banking, traded markets and derivatives. Mr. Kaul has a PGDM from IIMA.
